Book 2: Two Roads to Paradise

Assimilating into the starkly different world they returned to was not an easy task for the members of the Alpha Centauri I crew. Yet, two years later, most of them have found a way to make it feel like home again. A cure is being disseminated (pun intended) and the planet is looking forward to getting back to “normal." Unfortunately for some of these weary time travelers, the peace is short-lived. Hunter Young, now a member of the Marshall administration, has been working undercover for Lydia Statham and the Resistance, and is now being called on to make an arduous and circuitous journey to help Lydia investigate suspicious activity in a hidden lab. Hunter’s trek across the country reveals just how much division remains in the country and the overwhelming challenges they face in their goal of restoration for these United States. The secrets they uncover will turn the entire globe on its head just as it was being set right. Will they find they can forge Two Roads to Paradise or are they on a path headed straight for hell?

 The men reclined in silence watching the constellations pass overhead and Hunter found himself searching the sky to see if he could identify any of the celestial bodies he’d seen up close not too long ago. As he gazed out into space, he felt a strange tugging at his soul, almost like a homesickness. He definitely had not felt at home since his return. Maybe out there is where he belonged.

Hunter handed the file over to Joshua who began skimming the pages, and with each one his eyes grew wider.  Hunter was getting concerned and couldn’t wait for him to finish. “What is it?” 
“It looks like we have not solved the problem.”

Then a tiny frame with a very round belly emerged from the shadows and a shadow of her own just as slight and nearly as pregnant followed her. It took everything he had for Hunter to not gasp himself.

At this point, she slid a panel out from behind a cabinet where photo- graphs of the lab, the white boards with notes and formulas, an action plan, and a mission statement were pinned with lines and circles drawn, making connections and laying out their discoveries. Hunter thought it looked just like the wall of a mad scientist or obsessed criminal investigator you’d see in the movies. She pointed to the formula first.

Winston led the crew through the underground tunnel system that was part of an old mine shaft. It was a maze of dead ends and double backs that were designed to prevent nosy explorers from finding their way to the lab.
